What Is in Weimaraner Saliva That I Would Be Allergic To?

Hi,
my bestfriend has a Weimaraner dog and each time he licks me, I break out in hives and start to itch. I read online that some humans are allergic to their saliva, but nothing tells me what I would be allergic to. Please help me out.

Thanks so much!

Dog saliva contains many proteins and allergens that cause some people to have allergic reactions. When dogs drool, chew or lick people or other household items, the allergens in the saliva get airborne, which exposes you to it and you breathe in the harmful allergens. The allergens in the saliva can cause rhinitis, more commonly known as stuffy nose or nasal congestion. Rhinitis can also cause a runny nose. The symptoms are usually worse when you are near your dog or just after touching him.

It’s the proteins in the saliva.

I’m not sure what it is in the saliva, but my mother had the same problem with ONE of mine, but not the others. It was only an issue if the dog licked her, or nosed her skin. It helped if she immediately washed her skin. (It might be what the dog is fed btw, but that is JUST a guess.) At the time, the dog was eating a corn based food.

If you have access to a holistic doctor (that does acupuncture) you could be desensitized to the saliva so it would no longer be an issue for you. (MY Dr uses a process called NAET, for allergies).
