Is There a Dog Like a Vizsla or a Weimaraner but Smaller?

I have fallen in love with the Vizsla and Weimaraner breed as a whole especially their temperament. Unfortunately they are to big icon sad Is there a dog like a Vizsla or a Weimaraner but smaller? So i was wondering if there was an alternative that is similar but slightly smaller.

Thanks x
Ooo, also they need to be good with cats xx

German Shorthaired Pointers. A wonderful, good natured breed….I have three….but as with the two breeds you have mentioned…they are essentially gun dogs, and therefore not necessarily great with cats…..they do have a natural instinct to ”hunt, point and retrieve”. It would be down to you to introduce cat and pup together from the start and get them to socialise.

If you like a bird dog temperament then any of the active sporting breeds would be acceptable. Some of the spaniels are smaller.

The Vizsla is substantially smaller than the Weimaraner. Females are generally smaller than males. While Weimaraner females range in height from 23-25" tall at the shoulder & weigh an average of 60 lbs. the female Vizsla is only 21-23" & 45-55 lbs. The Vizsla are supposed to be much lighter in bone & substance than a Weimaraner. Both were bred to be versatile gun dogs (able to point, track & retrieve). Both are high energy dogs; one silver-gray one copper, but the Vizsla is not as willful or dominant as the Weimaraner & is not the guard-dog the Weim is. Instead, Vizslas tend to be very friendly (better with kids) so they are quite different, IMO.

You have not been specific enough in what you want that is similar, but smaller. Similar to Vizslas & Weimaraners, in what way? (They themselves, aren’t identical in temperament or size.) There are only similar-size short-coated pointing breeds in the ‘sporting’ group. If you don’t mind a much heavier coat, you can look at English or Welsh Springer Spaniels for a smaller hunting breed, but the temperaments & methods of hunting are not the same. If you just want a short-coated dog, yes there are lots of (non-sporting/non-hunting, non-retrieving) breeds like that.
