I am currently using the Petsafe wireless fence for my adult weimaraner and it has worked really well. I just don't know how old my new puppy needs to be to get his own collar.
It depends more on the size of the dog than age.
If he is too small for the collar you can still start training without the collar. Have him on a retractable leash and to the edge of the containment area (the flags should be in place on the INSIDE border of it) and as he gets into it pull him back with the "NO" (or what ever you use) command. As he gets used to it as well as larger just hang the collar loosely so he can hear the tone. This will shorten the time needed to train with the collar in place.
I don't recommend wireless systems and PetSafe in particular as I have found these products very limited as well as junky.

No the pup is too young. It has to be at least 8 months old to use any kind of wireless fence system.

Read the maunal or search google for it. My best guess is that the collar will be too strong. It's usually based off how much your dog weighs.

I would wait, but when you do make sure you teach the puppy that when you have him on the leash, it's ok to leave. I know a puppy that will not leave the yard because she wasn't taught that it is ok to cross the line for certain circumstances. She's terrified when her owner tried to take her out of the yard.

yes. the only way u couldnt do that would be if the puppy was brand new. if you start out with a smaller shock collar then it may work. if it doesnt seem to stop him get the larger one. it shouldnt hurt him too bad

Please vote best answer for me!
i have a weimaraner too!! i would think 4 months is a little to young. I would ask the pet store or the manufacture what their guidelines are. I use a bark collar on both my dogs. The weim is so sensative yet my lab doesnt even flinch…its the lack of hair im sure…. what a wonderful breed!!! I love my weimy
