How to Make My Weimaraner Friendly?

My Weimaraner is three years old, he was socialized as a puppy with many different strangers.

When he was just about 2 years old I was chased by a man and my dog protected me. Ever since then he has been aggressive towards just about everyone and anyone. I need help on how to correct this aggressive behavior before it is too late. I would love to be able to take him to family BBQ’s without having to constantly worry about him getting angry and aggressive towards someone. I would like people to be able to get through my front door without being charged at by him.

He is neutered.

Hi, I take my Weim. Hope to obedience classes. If i were you i would call around to all the obedience classes and talk to the instructors, tell them what your problem is and see if they know how to help you. or if they know someone that might. i would act now because if this behavior is not fixed there is no telling what kind of trouble the both of you will get into. also you might want to look and see if there are any weim rescues in your area call them and see if they take their weims to a certain trainer and talk to them about what is going on with your weim. you never know they may know something that can help him understand that not everyone is a threat. especially since they deal with weims. Good Luck.

I would take him to a trainer who specializes in that kind of behavior. I’m sorry that I’m not much help. Good Luck.

I would recommend a professional to help you. This will require changes from you and any members of your family as well as the dog, much too lengthy to explain here. Hope is not lost if you are willing to take the extra effort that’s required to turn your dog into an obedient, friendly pet. Gather information on behavior consultants from a vet or someone you know that have been satisfied with a professional they have used.

Weimaraners have the same temperament as Rottweilers. You need to see a reputable professional dog trainer/behaviourist regarding this, because what if…it is a child that comes near you next time. Aggression is something you can’t mock about with. Take a deep breath…contact your vet to get info about trainers in your area and take it from there…good luck!
