How can i tell wether my weimaraner puppy will have a long nose or a short nose?
I know that Weimaraners either have a long nose or a shorter nose. How can I tell by looking at a puppy wether it will have a long or short nose?
Yeah, I've owned show quality Weims for 25 years & I don't understand your question and term, short-nosed. They aren't Pugs or Boxers & don't even have a Lab type head (other than the floppy ears). I guess I need to be enlightened too.
Here's what the AKC breed Standard for Weimaraners says…
Head
"Moderately long and aristocratic, with moderate stop and slight median line extending back over the forehead. Rather prominent occipital bone and trumpets well set back, beginning at the back of the eye sockets. Measurement from tip of nose to stop equals that from stop to occipital bone. The flews should be straight, delicate at the nostrils. Skin drawn tightly. Neck clean-cut and moderately long. Expression kind, keen and intelligent. Ears–Long and lobular, slightly folded and set high. The ear when drawn snugly alongside the jaw should end approximately 2 inches from the point of the nose. "

Well, all weims have a pretty long nose.
You can look at the parents for one. Looking at the puppy conformation can usually tell you a lot if you know what you're looking for. Do you have a picture?

If you know what the parents look like, you could find out easier.
But, in general weimaraner's will have a longer nose.

I was only aware of Weims coming in the "long nose" variety- enlighten us on this "short nose" variety? I think you might have gotten a substandard pup from a BYB.
