I have been researching the Weimaraner breed and am very= interested in getting one. My only concern is that I have two cats. Anyone that has had this experience with owning or knowing someone who has cats with Weimaraner's together your input would be appreciated.
When I adopted my dog from a shelter, they cat tested her for us. She passed the test and has been getting along with the cats wonderfully. Try http://www.petfinder.com on the dogs picture they have symbols that show if the dog doesnt get along with cats! Its a very big help

All depends on the raising of one. If you look into rescuing one you can request one that specifically does well with cats.

It depends on if it has prey drive (the drive to chase animals and catch them). My dog doesn't so we can safely keep cats around her and we never even trained her to!

I have three cats and two dogs that all get alone fine.
You can train a puppy to be gentle with cats.

It depends on how old the dog is when you get it…
ANY dog can get along with cats if you introduce them to each other SLOWLY…
If you get a puppy then there won't be any problems at all… but if you get an adult you need to get a carier for the dog and put it in the bathroom. Then take your 2 cats and lock all three of them in the bathroom together for a few hours a day until they are used to each other…
Yes… the dog stays in the cage/carrier and the cats are loose so they can't get each other!
I've gotten cats to like cats… Dogs to like dogs… Dogs to like cats… It has worked every time…
Just keep the cats locked up until they are totally used to eachother and then monitor them when they play for the first few weeks…

I bought a Weim and he gets along with my cat. I bought him when he was 10 weeks old. Some times he might try to play to rough and the cat will smack (With claws out) and he will leave her alone. Good luck, there are very smart dogs!

When I bought my Weim (Hope) i had a 17 year old cat. and i do have to say that it was a Love Hate relationship. that is Love with my cat wanted love and hate when my cat wanted to hate lol. my weim was very very gentle with my cat. i believe she was gentle because i raised her with Rose (my cat). they had a good relationship, but they never played. It is possible for a weim and a cat to learn to like eat other, but get a puppy and raising the weim with the cats. just make sure you know everything about the breed, they are a very energetic dog. and needs lots of attention, love and affection. Good Luck with your new addition if you decide to go that direction.
